Thank you for reporting on major victory for pro-Palestine movement

Not only banks like Scotia Bank, Montreal-based companies continue to send parts to Elbit Systems three years into the genocide. Every shipment they send from Montreal to Elbit lands in a factory that arms occupation, genocide, and apartheid.

To the Canadian Press,

I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East regarding the article titled: “No criminal charges for Montreal protesters arrested at bank sit-in.”

We appreciate that the article talks about the drop of charges against the 44 people who were arrested in April 2024 after organizing a sit-in at a Scotiabank branch, demanding that the bank divest from Israel’s largest weapons manufacturer, Elbit Systems.

We especially appreciate that the article gave space for the protestors to mention that their goal was to pressure the Canadian bank to stop profiting from “genocide.”

Indeed, Elbit Systems, Israel’s largest weapons manufacturer, relies on a network of suppliers that enable Israel to pursue its genocidal campaign against our people in the region.

Not only banks like Scotia Bank, Montreal-based companies continue to send parts to Elbit Systems three years into the genocide. Every shipment they send from Montreal to Elbit lands in a factory that arms occupation, genocide, and apartheid.

This is indeed a victory, and we appreciate that Canadian Press reported on this important victory for the movement.

Please continue to report and add the necessary context needed to understand the demands of pro-palestine protests.
