The protests you are referring to were vigils by the local Jewish community in support of the hostages. The way you have worded and placed this line makes it seem like the pro-Palestine demonstrations were taking place there. I don’t know if this is a mistake or by design but either way it violates all journalistic standards of accuracy and should be re-written to convey the truth of the matter.
To the National Post,
I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) about your article “Police ban anti-Israel protesters from Toronto Jewish neighbourhood” published on March 23, 2026.
This article is appreciated but it contains a major factual error. In the opening paragraphs of the article, you state that the protests are being held around Bathurst and Sheppard. This line is particularly mis-leading “Protests have occurred there regularly since not long after the October 7, 2023, attacks on Israel by Hamas”.
This makes it seem as if the pro-Palestine protests were taking place right after October 7th, 2023. This is patently untrue as documented by the Alliance of Canadians Combatting Antisemitism.
It is quite clear from the ALCCA statement that the counter protests did not begin until a year after October 7th. Your article reads like they began almost immediately.
I request that the National Post revise the article to correct this deceptive mistake and meet basic journalistic standards of accuracy.
Thank you for reading and I look forward to your response.
