Lack of perspectives on B'nai Brith audit article

"My primary concern is the article’s exclusion of perspectives that are essential for readers to properly assess the report’s claims. Notably absent is any reference to the response from Independent Jewish Voices (IJV), whose critique of the audit has been reporting in the Canadian Press and the Toronto Star."

To the National Post editorial newsroom,

I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East to express my concern regarding your recent article on B’nai Brith Canada’s annual audit of antisemitic incidents.

My primary concern is the article’s exclusion of perspectives that are essential for readers to properly assess the report’s claims. Notably absent is any reference to the response from Independent Jewish Voices (IJV),  whose critique of the audit has been reporting in the Canadian Press and the Toronto Star

IJV has raised serious concerns about the audit’s methodology, transparency, and reliance on the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism, arguing that these factors risk conflating legitimate political criticism of Israel with antisemitism. This perspective is directly relevant to evaluating both the credibility of the data and the broader public policy implications discussed in your article. Reporting by the Toronto Star incorporated IJV’s critique, as well as important background on the IHRA definition and its controversial application. This demonstrates that the inclusion of these perspectives was both readily available and journalistically feasible.

By contrast, your article presents the audit’s findings and framing without scrutiny or counterbalance. This results in a one-sided narrative that does not meet the journalistic standards of accuracy, fairness, and diversity of viewpoints as outlined by the Canadian Association of Journalists.

Given the seriousness of antisemitism as a social issue, I urge you to update your reporting to include these missing perspectives.

I look forward to your response.
