To the CBC editorial newsroom,
I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East to express my concern regarding the CBC News Network May 12 (around 15:52 P.M.) broadcast segment on proposed Israeli legislation imposing the death penalty on Palestinians.
I take issue with the framing of the segment which is focused mainly on Israeli politicians who support the bill. There were no perspectives from Palestinians, international legal experts, human rights organizations or opponents of capital punishment.
Viewers were presented with Israeli government officials, and Israeli opposition figures, but no critical voices against the law itself.
CBC had a journalistic responsibility to balance its reporting and must include critical perspectives capable of scrutinizing Israel's anti-Palestinian policies.
