We urge CityNews to continue to platform Lebanese perspectives from the ground, particularly given Israel’s long and documented history of spreading misinformation as cover for carrying out more massacres.
To the CityNews Newsroom,
I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East to thank you for your segment that aired today at 6:24 a.m.
The segment notes that Israel claims to be targeting Hezbollah infrastructure in southern Lebanon, while also giving space to Lebanese resident Mohammed al Shaar from the city of Tyre (Sour), who described how “kids, women, and elderly people, all sitting,” suddenly heard evacuation warnings.
On-the-ground reporting and documentation reveal a consistent pattern of Israel systematically destroying civilian infrastructure, targeting civilians, and killing paramedics and medical personnel.
Just today, the Israeli military killed seven members of the Ajami family in Adloun, including Ramadan, his wife, their newborn child, and their four other children.
Yesterday, an Israeli strike on a vehicle in Sidon killed an entire family: a father, mother, and their two children.
On May 25, the Israeli military bombed the area of Mashghara in the Bekaa valley, killing the Rizq family and their children.
On May 18, the Israeli military killed Rida Awada, a resident of Jwaya, while he was digging graves for those killed in Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon.
On May 11, the Israeli military targeted a vehicle with two missiles, killing Zibdine municipality employee Yahya Ali Kobeissi and Hussein Ahmad Kobeissi while they were delivering bread to residents in the southern Lebanese town of Zibdine.
On May 10, paramedic Ali Reda Abbas Souli was killed after an Israeli strike hit his ambulance in Burj Qalaouiyeh, southern Lebanon.
On May 9, an Israeli airstrike targeted a residential building in the southern Lebanese town of Saksakieh, killing members of the Fahs family. The building was sheltering three families displaced from the village of Jebchit.
The list goes on and on.
All of this is to say, we appreciate the segment’s balanced approach in including a Lebanese perspective from the south, highlighting that women, elderly people, men, and children have all been forced to evacuate. We urge CityNews to continue to platform Lebanese perspectives from the ground, particularly given Israel’s long and documented history of spreading misinformation as cover for carrying out more massacres.
