Factual correction needed in Higgins oped

"While Israel has denied responsibility for the attack, the exact cause of the explosion at Al-Ahli is still disputed. The findings of Forensic Architecture (FA) were 'inconclusive' following extensive research. FA noted that 'the Israeli military launched an aggressive disinformation campaign…. [and] Israel has yet to provide any conclusive visual evidence to support the claim.' FA also found that 'Israeli intimidation and attacks on medical infrastructure, including hospitals, has been systematic and unrelenting' since October 7."

To the National Post editorial newsroom,

I am writing to you on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME), to express my concern regarding Mr. Higgins' recent article titled “Mark Carney brags about using terrorist talking points to lecture Israel,” published on May 27, 2026.

I take issue with this statement:

"It should not be forgotten that in 2023, Trudeau and Mélanie Joly, then minister for foreign affairs, were made to look like fools after essentially blaming Israel for a rocket attack on the Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City, based only on the word of Hamas, when it was later revealed to be a missile fired from within Gaza that caused the damage."

To say it was "later revealed to be a missile fired from within Gaza" is not a statement that can be claimed as a fact by the National Post.

In a post by Melanie Joly following news of the bombing of Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza, on October 17, 2023, the former Foreign Affairs Minister wrote: “Bombing a hospital is an unthinkable act, and there is no doubt that doing so is absolutely illegal.”

[and] Israel has yet to provide any conclusive visual evidence to support the claim.” FA also found that “Israeli intimidation and attacks on medical infrastructure, including hospitals, has been systematic and unrelenting” since October 7.

I urge you to update your article with this evidence to correct your inaccurate statement.
