Feedback regarding segment on US-Israel-Lebanon ceasefire

Given these developments, presenting the agreement as evidence of regional de-escalation without informing listeners that Israeli attacks resumed almost immediately afterward is deeply misleading. Listeners cannot meaningfully assess the significance of the agreement without being informed that Israeli strikes have continued despite the ceasefire announcement.

To the CTV Morning Live Calgary,

I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East regarding the segment that aired at 7:15:17 a.m. on June 4, 2026.

The segment reported on a joint statement issued by the United States, Israel, and Lebanon that was signed in Washington on June 3, announcing a ceasefire agreement. As the segment notes, the agreement is contingent upon Hezbollah's full withdrawal from southern Lebanon, without specifying whether any corresponding Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon is required under the terms of the agreement.

My main concern, however, relates to the segment's assertion that "there is hope this ceasefire can help pave the way to ending the U.S. and Israeli war in Iran."

Such optimism is difficult to reconcile with developments on the ground. Although the agreement was signed only yesterday, Israeli strikes resumed across southern Lebanon within hours. Reports indicate that at least nine Lebanese civilians were killed in multiple strikes in Sohmor, Maaroub, and Al-Abbassiya, while more than ten drone attacks were reported in the Nabatieh area alone. Israeli forces have also reportedly reinstated restrictions on movement in parts of southern Lebanon, warning residents not to return to areas south of the Zahrani River and targeting vehicles on local roads.

Please keep this feedback in mind in future reporting on this ceasefire agreement. In accordance with the Canadian Association of Journalists’ principles of accuracy, fairness, and providing adequate context, listeners should be informed when military operations continue despite claims of a ceasefire, particularly when bombings continue, movement restrictions, and evacuation orders remain in place.
