Gwynne Dyer's column

"We particularly appreciated Mr. Dyer detailing the obvious truth that Israel’s goal is to rid Gaza of Palestinians, and to ridiculing the twisted notion that any such departure could, under the current circumstances, be termed 'voluntary.'"

Dear Brooks Bulletin editorial staff:

I’m writing to you on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East regarding Gwynne Dyer’s column published last Wednesday, titled “What Does Bibi Want?” Dyer brings a welcome counterpoint to the views that dominate Canadian media, and we are grateful to the Brooks Bulletin for publishing a piece that quite simply tells it like it is.

We particularly appreciated Mr. Dyer detailing the obvious truth that Israel’s goal is to rid Gaza of Palestinians, and to ridiculing the twisted notion that any such departure could, under the current circumstances, be termed “voluntary.” We also appreciated the links made between what Israel is doing in southern Lebanon and what it did in the Gaza Strip. Our lone suggestion is that Mr. Dyer could have used the proper term to describe this behaviour: ethnic cleansing.

There is one part of the text we do wish to clarify. Mr. Dyer states that Israel’s policies in Gaza make sense to those convinced that it was divinely gifted to the Jewish people, whereas “it makes no sense to apply the same policy to southern Lebanon [because] it’s clear that God did not give Lebanon to the Jews.” We withhold comment on the theological soundness of the analysis underpinning Israel’s territorial claims, but do note that there are indeed those who claim Lebanon is part of the Land of Israel and that in 2024 the Jerusalem Post itself published a (since-deleted) op/ed titled, “Is Lebanon part of Israel’s promised territory?

We thank you again for publishing Mr. Dyer’s excellent column and would encourage you to continue to share such perspectives with your readers.

Sincerely,
