June 7 article by Jermaine Wilson

The article also assumes Zionism is the one and only political ideology of Canadian Jews. Equating Israel with Canada’s Jewish community is irresponsible oversimplification of Jewish identity, misleading and offensive. It suggests that Jewish Canadians uniformly represent Israel, framing Jewish identities as a monolithic group that speaks with one voice on Israel; a portrayal that is neither accurate nor fair. Many Jews are deeply critical of Israel and its ongoing genocide and aggression.

To CTV News,

I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) about your article “Tens of thousands gather in Toronto for Walk With Israel amid tight security, 6 arrested” published on June 7, 2026.

I am writing with some concerns regarding the article linked above that covers the Walk with Israel march. The article falls short of solid journalism by repeating claims of rising  antisemitism without evidence. Even if indeed antisemitism has increased the next logical question is, why? The article never addresses the issue. Instead it conflates antisemitism with criticism of Israel, which is what is really at the core of the alleged antisemitism.

Lastly, I would point out that the lack of context in your final line “The event came amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East and repeated protests in Canada over the war in Gaza.” makes light of the intense suffering and destruction Israel has cruelly wrought on Gaza, the West Bank and now Lebanon.

Far more than “ongoing tensions”, this is a situation that international human rights organizations and scholars, including those inside Israel, have described as a textbook genocide.

It bears noting that the people attending this rally are in support of, in fact celebrating, Israel's atrocities.

I hope CTV will introduce more context and balance in future reporting on this issue.

Thank you for reading and I look forward to your response.
