Israel violated the 2024 ceasefire in Lebanon

"Vivian Bercovici criticizes Prime Minister Carney for describing Israel's presence in southern Lebanon as an illegal invasion, yet fails to inform readers that since the start of the ceasefire on November 27, 2024 through February 28, 2026, the IDF had carried out 855 strikes across Lebanon."

To the National Post editorial newsroom,

I am writing to you on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME), to express my concerns regarding your article “Carney is our Chamberlain, not our Churchill” by Vivian Bercovici.

I take issue with this paragraph:

“Even Lebanese leaders were condemning Hezbollah’s occupation of their country. Yet when speaking with Lebanon’s prime minister and president, Carney denounced Israel for its “illegal invasion” of Lebanon, without bothering to mention the Lebanese failure to live up to their commitments made in the November 2024 ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon. A key element of that agreement was that Lebanon disarm Hezbollah and take control of its border with Israel. This has not transpired, with Hezbollah remaining entrenched in southern Lebanon and constantly targeting civilians in northern Israel with rocket and attack drone barrages.”

Vivian Bercovici criticizes Prime Minister Carney for describing Israel's presence in southern Lebanon as an illegal invasion, yet fails to inform readers that since the start of the ceasefire on November 27, 2024 through February 28, 2026, the IDF had carried out 855 strikes across Lebanon.

This not only violated Lebanon’s territorial sovereignty, but was a clear violation of the ceasefire prior to Israel’s illegal invasion of south Lebanon in March 2026.

I believe this context should be added. Failure to do so will leave me no choice but to file a formal complaint with a media accountability body.
