An insurgency is a condition of revolt against a government. I don’t think it is an apt descriptor of Israel's actions in this case, in the name of accuracy and in accordance with CBC’s JSP I would suggest changing it to "invasion" or "assault" or as every international body has described as an ethnic campaign of genocide from the ICJ to Amnesty to the United Nations.
To Yasmine Hassan and the CBC editors,
I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) about your article “Israel committed genocide in Gaza, deliberately targeted Palestinian children: UN report” published on June 24, 2026.
I would like to thank you for this article about the latest UN report detailing Israel’s deliberate targeting of children in the ongoing genocide of Palestinians. Articles like this are extremely important in a Canadian media landscape that continues to amplify Zionist talking points and erase Palestinian voices.
Your article outlines the key facts of the report and goes beyond presenting death tolls to highlighting the real human suffering and lives impacted like 13-year-old Jude Muhammad Dweik or 15-year-old Mohammed Bashir Kashko and their families.
One minor suggestion I have is to take another look at the use of the word “insurgency” in your article:
"Israel's ensuing insurgency into Gaza has left more than 73,000 dead..."
We appreciate this work very much and encourage you to keep exposing Israel’s crimes.
Please keep up the excellent work.
Sincerely,
Nikki Mutch
