Feedback about today's segment on "Israel's yellow line in Gaza"

To characterize the expansion of Israel’s occupation of Gaza as something done “quietly” is incorrect and unfair. Israel is illegally expanding its occupation in Gaza.

To the CBC News newsroom,

I’m writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME, https://www.cjpme.org) to express concern about the segment aired on CBC News Network Toronto today at 8:35.

At 8:37:56 the segment states "A CBC visual investigation reveals Israel's military is quietly expanding farther into Gaza. Images show how the IDF moved the so-called yellow line, marking the area under their control."

To characterize the expansion of Israel’s occupation of Gaza as something done “quietly” is incorrect and unfair. Israel is illegally expanding its occupation in Gaza. Indeed, Israel’s leaders and military are open about settlement expansion and annexation throughout the Occupied Palestinian Territories - illegal under international law, their intentions of ethnic cleansing and forced displacement, as well as the withholding and restriction of humanitarian aid for Palestinians.

In future coverage, I urge the CBC to correctly describe the role of Israel when reporting on impacts of its illegal expansions, in order to adhere to the standards of accuracy and fairness set out in the Canadian Association of Journalists ethics guidelines

Sincerely,

Alison Jenkins
