I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (www.cjpme.org) regarding a segment that aired on CTV News Vancouver on July 20, 2026. At 12:36:54, the broadcast says: "Health officials in Gaza say 14 people were injured in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City. The Israeli military says it struck what it calls a Hamas terrorist in today's strike. An October ceasefire paused major fighting but has not stopped near-daily Israeli strikes on the territory."
We appreciate that the segment noted the October ceasefire has not stopped near-daily Israeli strikes on Gaza. This is important context, and we are glad to see it stated plainly rather than left out.
However, we have feedback regarding the segment repeating Israeli claims without pushback or skepticism. The segment reports that the Israeli military "says it struck what it calls a Hamas terrorist" without offering any independent verification, any skepticism, or any Palestinian perspective beyond attributing the injury figure to health officials in Gaza.
Given Israel's long and well-documented history of manufacturing lies to justify the killing of Palestinians, such uncorroborated statements should never be reported without context, skepticism, or independent verification. These allegations are routinely denied by Palestinians, resistance groups, and international investigations.

It is also glaring that the segment omits to mention that the Israeli airstrike in Gaza killed 10 Palestinians. In the interest of accuracy and fairness, the segment should have mentioned the Palestinian death toll. I appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to CTV News Vancouver holding to these standards in future coverage.
