This violates journalistic standards of balance and impartiality. Given the long history of blatant lies coming out of official Israeli sources we would expect a large degree of skepticism about their “claims”. This bias is also disrespectful to the loss and agony suffered by the Palestinians in Gaza.
To the CTV Winnipeg Newsroom,
I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) regarding your segment that reported on an Israeli attack on Palestinian civilians in Gaza which aired on July 20, 2026 at 6:20 PM.
I want to thank you for this report and the fact that it points out the daily violations by Israel of the “ceasefire” agreement and the shocking number of civilian Palestinians killed. However, I do have a couple points of feedback for you.
First the segment mentions what “Israel says” after Israeli forces not only injured 14 people, as you report, but killed 10 people, which was not in the report. This qualifies as a massacre by any standard and should be referred to as such. The grave omission here is that the segment omits to mention the Palestinian death toll and only informs your audience of “what Israel says”.
Why does CTV only quote Israel’s excuses which have proven to be lies time after time?
What did the Palestinians have to say about this and why wasn't it in your report?
If Russia massacred 10 Ukrainian civilians and injured many more would CTV News report what Moscow says and ignore the victims?
This violates journalistic standards of balance and impartiality. Given the long history of blatant lies coming out of official Israeli sources we would expect a large degree of skepticism about their “claims”. This bias is also disrespectful to the loss and agony suffered by the Palestinians in Gaza.
We therefore ask CTV News to raise skepticism around Israeli claims. At the very least, the segment should include a Palestinian perspective.
I would also suggest the use of the word “ceasefire” be put in quotes or referred to as “so-called” or “fake”. There has been no ceasefire for Palestinians. After 10 months of a fake ceasefire over 1,100 Palestinians have been slaughtered by Israel and over 3,500 injured.
If CTV is a news organization committed to telling the truth to Canadians, then calling this continuation of atrocities a ceasefire represents an abdication of your duties and misrepresents the reality on the ground for Palestinians.
Thank you for reading and I look forward to your response.
