I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) regarding the CBC News TV segment that aired at 8:00 AM.
The segment states:
“Despite a cease-fire in place between Israel and Hamas since October 2025, the two sides have continued to engage in sporadic fighting. According to the U.N, more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since then, and Israel still controls nearly 70% of the enclave.”
We appreciate that the segment mentions the Palestinian death toll and that Israel controls 70% of Gaza. However, the segment would have been more accurate had it included additional context regarding Israel’s failure to fulfill its ceasefire obligations in Phase One.
· The Rafah crossing, a key lifeline for aid, entry, and travel, re-opened but remains subject to strict Israeli control.
· Israel continues to expand their control beyond the designated Yellow Line.
· Israel continues to restrict the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza
· During phase 1 of the agreement, Hamas released all 20 living Israeli captives in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian political prisoners. However, Suhail al-Hindi, a member of the Hamas political bureau and one of the supervisors of the exchange deal, informed Al Jazeera that Israel has not fulfilled its obligation to release all women and minor political prisoners as specified in the agreement.
In the interest of accurate and fair reporting, in line with CBC’s JSP, the segment should have at minimum mentioned that Israel did not fulfill its ceasefire obligations in Phase one.
