Israel's rejection of Board of Peace Plan

"While your report does a good job of portraying Israel’s intransigence and some of the motives behind it, including such background information would have helped your readers understand Israel’s well-established, and ongoing goal to ethnically cleanse Palestine—the reason why the prospects for peace are so perilous."

Dear City News Montreal producers,

I am writing to thank you for your audio segment that aired Monday August 10 at 6:15 am concerning Israel’s rejection of the latest “Board of Peace” plan.
While it may be surprising that Netanyahu publicly challenged President Trump’s plans, the fact that Israel never had any intention of winding down its war on the Palestinian population should be quite evident from its actions since phase one of the “ceasefire” was declared in October 2025.

As Al Jazeera has reported, while phase one of the plan was supposed to halt the fighting, Israel has continued its attacks on the defenseless territory, by the latest count killing more than 450 Palestinians including at least 100 children since the “ceasefire” was declared. Israel has violated the agreement with at least 1,193 such attacks since last October.  Israel was also required to withdraw its army behind the “yellow line.” Instead, it continues to extend its forces beyond this line, and move the line markers, squeezing the remaining Palestinian refugees into ever decreasing territory. Israel was also to restore humanitarian aid and reopen the Rafah crossing. Aid continues to be restricted, and Rafah remains closed. Although Hamas has returned all its Israeli prisoners, Israel has failed to reciprocate by releasing all women and child prisoners, and it continues to detain several Palestinian doctors.

While your report does a good job of portraying Israel’s intransigence and some of the motives behind it, including such background information would have helped your readers understand Israel’s well-established, and ongoing goal to ethnically cleanse Palestine—the reason why the prospects for peace are so perilous.

Sincerely
