610 Newstalk segment Aug. 25

"In reference to Mr. Saravanamuttoo calling the atrocities in Gaza a genocide, the host says “he doesn’t know what he’s talking about”. The international consensus is that Israel has indeed committed and continues to commit genocide in Gaza."

To the CKTB 610 newsroom,

I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) regarding your segment which aired at 9:54 AM on August 25, 2026.

This segment is riddled with so much misinformation and bigotry it is hard to know where to begin. The host and guest are wrong on a number of points made but perhaps the most egregious is the slander directed at Ottawa mayoral candidate Neil Saravanamuttoo. In reference to Mr. Saravanamuttoo calling the atrocities in Gaza a genocide, the host says “he doesn’t know what he’s talking about”. The international consensus is that Israel has indeed committed and continues to commit genocide in Gaza. It is your host and guest who don’t know what they are talking about.

Mr. Saravanamuttoo is correct in his statement on Gaza and he cites credible sources. Either you did not watch the video or you chose to omit this information to smear Mr. Saravanamuttoo.

All Canadian cities exercise the right to control the tax dollars of their constituents and that includes making statements supporting oppressed groups and calling for boycotts if they choose to do so. It is both legal and commendable.

Does CKTB denigrate Canadians who stand in solidarity with Ukraine and boycott Russian goods and services?

Thank you for reading and I look forward to your response.
