Re: A broken communion

Dear editor,

I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East regarding the article “A broken communion” and its characterization of the World Communion of Reformed Churches’ statements on Palestine.

The article criticizes the WCRC for calling attention to Palestinian suffering in Gaza while being “less vocal about the right of Israel to protect itself.” However, never is there mention of the fact that Israel is an occupying power with illegal settlements in Palestine, the birthplace of Christianity.

The ICJ 2024 findings regarding Israel's settlements concluded that occupation does not give an occupying power sovereignty over the occupied territory, and that Israel’s prolonged presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory has been found unlawful.

Readers deserve that context
