Headline lacking context and accuracy

The Associate Press has a responsibility to provide accurate, rigorous, contextual, and impartial journalism. This article headline falls short of that standard. I urge you to amend the title to include context around why the building was unstable and naming Israel explicitly as the perpetrator.

Dear Associate Press editors,

I am writing to ask, in the interest of accurate reporting, that you change the title of your recent article, "At least 21 killed in Gaza, including many children, as unstable building collapses" (September 16, 2026). The headline fails to provide crucial context for what caused the collapse thereby relieving Israel of responsibility for the situation that led to the deaths of 21 Palestinians and 14 others injured.

The title of this article should read, “Building damaged by Israeli strikes collapses suddenly killing 21 in Gaza, including many children”.

The Guardian has used the headline: “At least 21 killed after Israeli-hit building in Gaza City collapses”.

Even the Globe and Mail with its history of parroting pro-Israeli propaganda has alluded to the cause, although still shieling Israel: “War-damaged Gaza building collapses killing 21 as perilous conditions persist during truce”.

The Associate Press has a responsibility to provide accurate, rigorous, contextual, and impartial journalism. This article headline falls short of that standard. I urge you to amend the title to include context around why the building was unstable and naming Israel explicitly as the perpetrator.

Sincerely,

Nikki Mutch
