Missing context in the report on Israel's airforce attack on Lebanon

The first being that the attack on Sidon’s commercial area was part of a series of Israeli attacks on villages in southern Lebanon over a period of 24-48 hours. The attacks forced many civilians to flee their homes once again.

Dear Mr. Atanasov, Mr. Nadlaini, Ms. Aslam, Mr. Recksiedler and Mr. Ledesma,

I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) to express concern regarding Charles de Ledesma’s report that was aired on Vancouver City News on January 6: Israel’s airforce attack on southern and eastern Lebanon.

I can appreciate that there is limited time for many details in a brief news item but critical context and facts were eliminated.

The first being that the attack on Sidon’s commercial area was part of a series of Israeli attacks on villages in southern Lebanon over a period of 24-48 hours. The attacks forced many civilians to flee their homes once again.

The attacks were also in direct violation of the ceasefire agreement which also was not mentioned in the news report. Instead priority was given to the Israeli military’s justification for the attacks. In October 2025,  UN officials stated that Israel’s repeated attacks on Lebanon are severe violations of international humanitarian and human rights law and undermine any prospect of a lasting peace. A statement acknowledging Israel’s disregard for international law and violating the terms of the agreement should have been included in the report.

I urge you to consider these concerns and implement improvements in future reporting.

Sincerely,

Debbie Hubbard
