On July 13, 2023, the pro-Israel media watchdog Honest Reporting Canada (HRC) launched a campaign against CTV News Edmonton for their fair coverage of a rally in Edmonton held in solidarity with Palestinians in Jenin, which included interviews with local activists. CTV’s coverage included both a broadcast news segment and an online article.

HRC is demanding that CTV News Edmonton go on air and say that “Palestinian terrorism is happening in Jenin” and that all Palestinians killed there were “terrorists.”

Worse yet, not only is HRC advocating for bad journalism, but their request is made on the heels of footage of an unarmed Palestinian child in Jenin being shot by an Israeli sniper in front of a hospital. He was one of four Palestinian children to be killed in the attack. Israeli forces also shot at journalists, ambulances, hospitals, and other civilians, and injured 143 people.

CTV News already corrected information in this article after a CJPME complaint about an incorrect statistic, making the article stronger. Join CJPME in supporting CTV News for their coverage and demanding that they don’t cave to HRC’s unfair request.
