Please help us thank Eastern Door and Eve Cable for a thorough and balanced article about Palestine, the protests, and Indigenous and Palestinian solidarity.

The Eastern Door is a community-based newspaper in Kahnawake. Building solidarity between Indigenous peoples and Palestinians is a hugely important cause, and it is critical that journalists provide fair and balanced coverage. This article is a great example. 

  • The article gives accurate terms and information about Palestine’s history and Palestinians’ reality under occupation: 1917 Balfour Declaration, 1948 Nakba, restriction of movement, Israeli checkpoints, not right to vote, apartheid, genocide, Israel's control of the media and misinformation, colonization.
  • The article gives voice to diverse critical perspectives:
    • Ellen Gabriel, Kenahsataʼkehró:non
    • Clifton Ariwakehte Nicholas, Kenahsataʼkehró:non, who visited Palestine in 2016
    • Avi Lewis, Jewish filmmaker, and climate activist who talks about false antisemitism accusations against pro-Palestine protests

  • The article draws parallels between the dehumanizing language (being called a terrorist) that is used against Indigenous peoples and Palestinians.
