Join us in challenging CTV Montreal’s media campaign against pro-Palestine supporters.
A recent article by Joe Lofaro takes aim at Montreal’s anti-racism commissioner, Bochra Manaï, for her social media posts expressing solidarity with Palestinian civilians killed by Israel. It is an egregiously one-sided article.
This is not an isolated incident for CTV Montreal, who are attacking pro-Palestine supporters on their news website and their radio and television stations this week. Their coverage is alarming and needs a fierce challenge.
- The article begins by lambasting Manaï for her alleged silence about antisemitic incidents in the city. However, buried in the story are clear examples of Manaï condemning antisemitism in Montreal.
- The journalist only interviews pro-Israel groups, including the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) and B’nai Brith. This is highly unfair, as pro-Palestine supporters are not interviewed and only scattered social media posts by Manaï are quoted.
- The article details antisemitic incidents in the city, but completely ignores the numerous recent Islamophobic and anti-Palestinian incidents.
- The piece also seems to suggest that posters calling for a ceasefire are antisemitic, a ridiculous claim. The journalist should make it clear that calls for a ceasefire are not in any way antisemitic.
