"It is upsetting that an article that was supposed to highlight the Palestinian reality is being overshadowed by a lack of context and one-sidedness toward Israel. The reader leaves learning almost nothing about Palestinians in Gaza but instead hears quite a bit about Israeli hostages."

Please help us challenge this CBC News Manitoba article about an event organized by Family Actions 4 Palestine. While the article is centered around the kite-flying event to help Winnipeg families show solidarity with Gaza, it is incomplete and lacks balance.
- The article fails to give voice to Palestinians as well as the children who attended this event despite the groups being the focus. CBC News Manitoba does quote one of the Family Actions 4 Palestine’s event organizers and one of the parents who attended. However, the article interviews the CEO of the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg, Jeff Liberman, and his comments seem out of place.
- Jeff Liberman's comments shift the focus away from the actual event and onto Israeli hostages, which is not related to the event’s goal of showing solidarity with Gaza. This appears to be a double standard, as articles about pro-Israel events that express solidarity with Palestinians rarely quote pro-Palestine advocates about genocide in Gaza.
- The article downplays Israel’s actions and doesn’t use the same language to talk about Palestinian deaths as it does when it mentions Israeli deaths. It doesn't mention that Israel has not been allowing aid and fuel to enter Gaza. Israel has bombarded grocery stores, bakeries, residential units, and refugee camps. HRW has even stated that Israel uses starvation as a weapon of war in Gaza. This only furthers the one-sidedness of the article.
- The article fails to mention the reality for children in Gaza, which is disappointing since the focus of the article is on an event helping families “having a hard time'' discussing the conflict with kids. Again, it is upsetting that an article that was supposed to highlight the Palestinian reality is being overshadowed by a lack of context and one-sidedness toward Israel. The reader leaves learning almost nothing about Palestinians in Gaza but instead hears quite a bit about Israeli hostages.
