Please help us challenge this shameful article by Western Standard on a pro-Palestine action blocking the Port of Vancouver.
- The article’s headline is deeply misleading. The word genocide is in scare quotes despite the word being qualified as a claim. The scare quotes only serve to downplay the well-founded legitimacy of the claim unfairly. The headline also insinuates that the pro-Palestine protestors are responsible for halting a year's worth of trade at the port ($300 billion!) with their action, which is obviously false.
- Polczer writes, "pro-Palestinian protestors blocked roads leading in and out of the facility over what they are calling 'genocide.'" The International Court of Justice has ruled that it is plausible Israel is committing genocide. It is not merely the claim of protesters at the Port.
- Polczer also writes: “After the October 7 attacks that killed Israelis 1,200 civilians and sparked a massive response that has killed at least 26,000 more.” The 1,200 people who died on October 7 were not all civilians. Many were soldiers. Further, the sentence makes it sounds as if 26,000 more Israeli civilians died, when it is over 26,000 Palestinians that have been killed by Israeli military forces.
