CP24 anchor calls "From the river to the sea" an antisemitic chant on-air

The chant to which she is referring is widely understood as a call for Palestinians between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea to be liberated. To label it as antisemitic in a news segment reporting on the police crackdown of a pro-Palestine demonstration is highly inappropriate, false, and offensive.

Poor coverage - Media outlet to be critiqued

As news anchor Beatrice Vaisman reports live from Toronto police headquarters to cover the allegations of police brutality made by pro-Palestine protestors, she calls a popular chant “antisemitic.” Please take the time to email CP24 to request an on-air correction for her comments.

  • In the backdrop of the video, protestors can be heard chanting, “From the river to the sea, Palestine is almost free.” Vaisman points out the chant and says, “You can hear them chanting ‘from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.’ That is generally often viewed as an antisemitic message used in the midst of these demonstrations.”
