National Post gives platform to racist, Islamophobic, anti-Palestinian politician Selina Robinson

"Ms. Robinson omits that her dismissal was not for 'impolitic words,' but rather due to public backlash over her dismissive and racist remarks about historic Palestine, where she referred to it as 'a crappy piece of land with nothing on it.'"

In her recent op-ed, former B.C. NDP minister and pro-Israel advocate Selina Robinson promotes dangerous Islamophobic and racist anti-Arab and anti-Palestinian rhetoric, falsely framing Palestinian solidarity as a cynical political ploy by the NDP to court Muslim votes. The piece insinuates that by supporting Palestinian rights, the NDP is compromising values like feminism, LGBTQ+ rights, and the separation of church and state. This rhetoric relies on pro-Israel "pinkwashing" and stereotypes that portray the Palestinian liberation movement as regressive, religiously driven, and misogynist—rather than a just struggle against apartheid. We strongly encourage MAP Alert volunteers to submit letters to the editor, challenging Robinson’s piece.

  • Robinson employs the racist trope that Arabs and Muslims are inherently misogynist, homophobic, and antisemitic to silence pro-Palestinian voices and discredit solidarity efforts.
  • Robinson omits the true context behind her resignation from the B.C. cabinet. Her dismissal was not for so-called “impolitic words,” but rather due to public backlash over her dismissive and racist remarks about historic Palestine, where she referred to it as “a crappy piece of land with nothing on it.”
  • Many in the NDP have opposed Israel's genocide in Gaza. Robinson boils this down to "a crude political calculation."
