Please help us thank CBCʼs The Current host, Matt Galloway, for his January 15 radio segment giving voice to a Canadian doctor in Gaza, Dr. Yasser Khan.
This segment will almost certainly stir a backlash from pro-Israel groups. Join us in encouraging more reporting of this sort.
Canadian Dr. Yasser Khan's testimony was an accurate and thorough depiction of the reality in Gaza.
- The radio segment depicts the horrifying reality of what it feels like to live and work under constant Israeli bombardment: no food, loss of home, forced displacement, the targeting of ambulances, etc.
- The radio segment highlights the reality of Gaza’s healthcare system: military assaults on their system, overcrowdedness with refugees, the lack of supplies, etc.
- Matt Galloway lets the Doctor humanize Palestinians. He speaks powerfully and uninterrupted about the resilience of the Palestinian people in Gaza.
- The radio segment brings attention to the reality of children in Gaza, their injuries, and the surge of amputations. It is a point that is not often raised when discussing the present reality of Gaza. According to Save the Children, on average, more than ten children per day have lost one or both legs in Gaza since October 7. Since October 7, more than 1,000 children have had one or both legs amputated.
This segment exemplifies the best of CBC's radio journalism and ought to be encouraged.
