On June 19, 2025, CJPME learned that, after some deliberation, CBC decided to change the headline of a Chris Brown piece due to our complaint. The original headline claimed that “Israel appears to believe its war goals are getting closer as Gaza teeters on the brink of starvation.” We pointed out that Gaza actively faces starvation on a widespread scale according to the Integrated Food Security Classification System. CBC’s headline now correctly states, “Israel appears to believe its war goals are getting closer as Gaza faces starvation.”
Many outlets have simply ignored Gaza’s food crisis or downplayed its severity. Others have even blamed the situation on Hamas, letting Israel off the hook for war crimes. CBC took an important, even if small step by correcting the misleading language.
