CJPME secures key correction to National Post article on Toronto protests

An article in the National Post, “Police ban anti-Israel protesters from Toronto Jewish neighbourhood,” falsely claimed that signs featuring antisemitic caricatures were held in Toronto on March 14, 2026. The 14th was the day of the Al Quds Day march in Toronto, which the Ontario government attempted to ban, but failed. CJPME informed the Post about the incorrect dates and an editor agreed we were “100% correct,” correcting the dates and adding a clarifying editor’s note.

The National Post is not the only outlet that falsely associated the Al Quds Day march with these signs. The Toronto Sun made numerous changes to its story with false claims about Al Quds Day, but issues remain, including the incorrect dates. CJPME’s complaints have been ignored by the Sun’s editors at the time of writing.

The signs were held at a different protest on March 15 at the intersection of Bathurst and Sheppard in Toronto. Activists have complained that while there was national outrage over antisemitic signage, there has been no media coverage of the racist anti-Palestinian signs held by pro-Israel demonstrators at the same intersection, representing a double-standard.
