Strong coverage of settler violence on Palestinians in Huwara by CHCH Morning Live

"Much of the Canadian coverage of the event overlooked the ferocity of the violence faced by Palestinians.  Despite its brief segment, CHCH Morning Live provided a description and showed video of the malicious Israeli settler violence. According to Palestinian officials, Israeli settlers have carried out at least 300 attacks on Palestinians and their property in a single night, including shootings and arson. At least 390 Palestinians were injured and one killed according to the Palestinian Red Crescent. Israeli settlers even set homes on fire with families still inside."

CHCH Morning Live

Dear Sir / Madam,

I’m writing to you on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME, https://www.cjpme.org) to thank you for your brief but relatively strong coverage of the horrible violence on Sunday against Palestinians in Huwara at the hands of vigilante Israeli settlers and the Israeli Army.

Much of the Canadian coverage of the event overlooked the ferocity of the violence faced by Palestinians. Israeli settlers even set homes on fire with families still inside.

It is important that Canadians get a holistic perspective on the Palestinian struggles under Israeli military occupation.  Coverage on Israel-Palestine must do more than just broadcast statements from each side.  The media ensure that its Canadian audience understands the asymmetry and power imbalance in the conflict.  We appreciate CHCH Morning Live’s efforts in this regard.

Should you wish, feel free to contact me at 438-380-5410 for any reason.

Sincerely,

Thomas Woodley, MPA

President, Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East
