Thanks to Rick Salutin for his insightful piece, “Is a potential civil war brewing among Israeli Jews?” Salutin collapses a lot of history and religious lore into his piece, and provides an insightful read for people wanting to understand how Israel arrived at its current political and societal crisis.
For much of the world, the explosion of dirty Israeli laundry may come as a surprise, but not for the Palestinians. For years, Palestinians spoke of living under an apartheid Israeli regime, but nobody listened until the Israeli and Western human rights groups started making the same assertion. Likewise, for years, Palestinians have contended that they live under the constant paralyzing threat of violent religious extremism. Now, as Salutin points out, the rest of the world is finally beginning to understand.
The question is, now that religious Zionism has merged with political Zionism in Israel with horrifying implications, will Palestinians again be left in the breach.
