Article on Photo of the Year Award omits critical information about Shireen Abu Akleh's killing

Referring to the killing of Abu Akleh, you mention that “Israeli defense forces admitted it was likely that one of their soldiers shot the prominent correspondent.” However, you fail to mention that the Israeli military declined to open a criminal investigation. In fact, there have been multiple forensic investigations by international human rights organizations, including Forensic Architecture which concluded that Israeli soldiers had targeted Abu Akleh “deliberately and explicitly,” and found that there were no Palestinian gunmen or crossfire. In addition, similar investigations by CNN, Bellingcat, the Washington Post and the Associated Press all indicated that Abu Akleh was targeted by Israeli forces on purpose.
