Sabrina Marandola, Host, CBC Radio One Let’s Go
Dear Ms. Marandola,
I’m writing to you on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME, https://www.cjpme.org) to express my appreciation for a radio segment on the show Let’s Go with Sabrina Marandola, aired by CBC Radio One 88.5 FM (CBME) on April 28.
I was glad that you highlighted a tatreez art exhibition with Palestinian artist Najat El Khairy that was organized by the Palestinian Youth Movement. I was especially pleased that you mentioned the 1948 Nakba – a series of events that resulted in the dispossession and displacement of Palestinians. It is also a reminder of the resilience of the Palestinian people who endure Israeli violence and apartheid.
Palestinian perspectives and experiences are often silenced or deliberately left out of Canadian public discourse. By mentioning such events, you valorize the lived experiences of Canadian Palestinians and draw attention to important events like the Nakba and its ongoing impact on the Palestinian people, culture, and heritage.
I hope to see Palestinian history, art, and heritage more frequently mentioned and profiled in the future on CBC Radio One.
Should you wish, you can contact me at 438-380-5410 for more information.
Sincerely,
Tayla Shair
