Dear Mr. Sawafta, Mr. Al-Mughrabi, Mr. Moss and Mr. Barlett,

I’m writing to you on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME, https://www.cjpme.org) to express my appreciation regarding the article “Palestinian toddler wounded by Israeli gunfire dies,” by Reuters and published by Saltwire on June 5, 2023.

I appreciate that you cite Palestinian sources in the article especially when Israeli military sources can be highly misleading and unreliable. I am glad that you quote the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding Israeli military investigations, and their failure to prosecute crimes committed against innocent Palestinian civilians, especially children.

Palestinian sources are often deliberately left out from Canadian public discourse, especially when they contradict established power structures – particularly the Israeli military and government. It is important for the Canadian public to be aware of Israel’s violations against Palestinians and hear directly from Palestinian sources.

I hope to see continued fair and balanced coverage from Reuters and Saltwire on all issues pertaining to the Middle East and Palestine in particular.

Should you wish, you can contact me at 438-380-5410 for more information.

Sincerely,

Tayla Shair, Media Analyst, Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East
