Thanks for giving a space to Palestinian voices

Dear Natasha Fatah, and Brodie Fenlon,

I am writing to thank you for your October 8 News segment, “Years of oppression led to Hamas attacks, says Canadian Palestinian.”

I was happy that CBC invited Ramsey Zeid, president of the Canadian Palestinian Association of Manitoba, to talk about the recent events unfolding in Palestine-Israel.

It is refreshing to see CBC put forward a Palestinian voice to nuance the current events while the media was engulfed with Israeli’s side of the story and casualties. As Ramsey Zeid said: “This has been going on for many, many years. […] This is a response of years and years of having people trapped in a small area called Gaza.”

I also appreciate the fact that Natasha Fatah acknowledges that there is a clear side that has been taken by the US and Canada and gives space to the guest to provide an answer about it, to which he replies by saying it is one-sided.

Amidst the recent events unfolding and a lack of nuanced media coverage, thank you for meeting your journalistic standards and contributing to a more balanced media environment in Canada by giving space to Palestinian voices.

Sincerely,

Fatima Haidar,

Media Analyst, Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East
