"The misinformation about the death and injury tolls of the Palestinians downplays the impact of the violence they are experiencing due to the air strikes. At a time, when the public trust in Canadian media is in decline, it is imperative that accurate and current information is provided to readers."

Michael J. Armstrong, Professor, Brock University
Dear Mr. Keegan and Mr. Armstrong,
I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME, cjpme.org) to urge correction of an inaccuracy in the numbers that were reported in the “Massive invasion of Gaza Strip appears imminent” article that was posted online on The Conversation website on October 13 and in the print edition of The Daily Courier on October 18.
In the original article that was posted on The Conversation website on October 13, the numbers reported were accurate for that date. However, by October 16, the Gaza Health Ministry reported that at least 2,750 Palestinians had been killed and 9,700 wounded in Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip. By October 17, the UN reported 4200 Palestinians had been killed, including many women and children, as well as at least 11 Palestinian journalists, 28 medical staff, and 14 UN staff.
The misinformation about the death and injury tolls of the Palestinians downplays the impact of the violence they are experiencing due to the air strikes. At a time, when the public trust in Canadian media is in decline, it is imperative that accurate and current information is provided to readers.
I urge you to publish a print correction in a forthcoming edition of The Daily Courier. If you would like to discuss this with me further, please contact me at 250-469-4468.
Sincerely,
Debbie Hubbard
