Thanks for good coverage on Gaza’s evacuation reality amidst Israel’s attacks since October 7

"Reading an article describing Gaza’s evacuation reality amidst Israel’s attacks since October 7 was refreshing. We read about Canadian and American citizens' evacuations in the media without having complete information about Gaza’s evacuation reality and the apartheid between citizens in Israel and those in occupied Palestinian territories, Gaza, and the West Bank."

Dear Sara Jabakhanji, Dale Manucdoc, Mari Ito, and Brodie Fenlon,

I am writing to thank you for the article: “Toronto-area man with 13 relatives killed in Gaza clings to hope as mother trapped at Rafah crossing,” published on October 18 on the CBC News website.

Reading an article describing Gaza’s evacuation reality amidst Israel’s attacks since October 7 was refreshing.

We read about Canadian and American citizens' evacuations in the media without having complete information about Gaza’s evacuation reality and the apartheid between citizens in Israel and those in occupied Palestinian territories, Gaza, and the West Bank.

This citation from Alshurafa, in particular, was poignant: “This is the result of collective punishment [and] forces displacement by the Israeli government, and right now, quite frankly, we feel like second-class U.S. citizens because it seems like the American citizens in Gaza, their lives don’t matter.” It clearly shows the scope of Israel’s actions, even on evacuations.

Thank you, Sara Jabakhanji, Dale Manucdoc, and CBC, for covering this issue.

I hope CBC will continue giving space to Palestinian voices and treatment, often obscured in Canadian media.

Sincerely,

Fatima Haidar,

Media Analyst, Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East
