Thanks for reflecting that 71% of Canadians believe a ceasefire should be established in Gaza

"The emotional and physical cost of the attack on Gaza, as Councillor Tetrault stated, impacts all of us. We need elected officials from all levels of government to act now by calling for a ceasefire and the Burnaby City Council demonstrated just that by their vote."

Dear Ms. Lauren and Mr. Balzer,

As a fellow British Columbian and member of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME, https://www.cjpme.org), I want to thank you for the article titled “Burnaby Council urges Trudeau to call for ceasefire in Gaza” on November 8, 2023. Their vote and your article reflect what two recent polls have shown. The results of a poll conducted by Mainstreet Research showed that 71% of Canadians support Canada calling for a ceasefire so that humanitarian aid gets to the citizens of Gaza. An Angus Reid poll on November 7 showed that two in three Canadians believe a ceasefire should be established in Gaza. The emotional and physical cost of the attack on Gaza, as Councillor Tetrault stated, impacts all of us. We need elected officials from all levels of government to act now by calling for a ceasefire and the Burnaby City Council demonstrated just that by their vote.

Sincerely,
Debbie Hubbard
