Article falsely accuses pro-Palestine protesters of being pro-Hamas people

"By doing so, this article only furthers the conflation between the pro-Palestine protests and antisemitism to discredit them and the Palestinian cause. It only fuels antisemitism and anti-Palestinian racism."

Dear Steve Bartlett and Jocelyne Lloyd,

I am writing to express concern about your article: “Moncton taking heat over decision to remove Menorah from city hall holiday display after 20 years,” published on December 4 on Saltwire.

This article inaccurately and falsely accused pro-Palestine protesters of being pro-Hamas people.

You write: “Other points noted in the Dec. 2 post include references to growing anti-semitism worldwide and how the choice, purely coincidentally, coincides with the pro-Hamas people demonstrating in front of city hall…”

While this article is about antisemitism, it is disappointing to use such a description since Jewish People are also part of these protests.

By doing so, this article only furthers the conflation between the pro-Palestine protests and antisemitism to discredit them and the Palestinian cause. It only fuels antisemitism and anti-Palestinian racism.

I, therefore, ask that you change pro-Hamas people to pro-Palestine protesters.

I hope Saltwire will cover future local events regarding Palestine-Israel in a more accurate and balanced manner.

Sincerely,

Fatima Haidar,
