Thanks for highlighting similarities between Palestinians and Indigenous Peoples

Dear Mr Wright,

I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East, ( cjpme.org) Saskatoon chapter to thank you for your excellent December 11 article: “Inuk member of Nutrition North advisory board resigns over Canada’s support for Israel”

I write from Treaty 6 territory in Saskatchewan, where a refreshingly honest and direct article like this is not likely to be published- silencing of Indigenous, including Palestinian, voices is very much in evidence here.

Thank you for extensively quoting Beth Kotierk, who in clear, firm language points out that Canada’s efforts at reconciliation can’t be taken seriously when it is supporting the genocide of another Indigenous people.

With this article, you give Ms Kotierk a platform to educate Canadians on the history and ongoing colonial violence against both Canada’s and Palestine’s Indigenous Peoples.

You also include a statement by Melanie Joly: “ We need to make sure that we get to the two-state solution..”

A hypocritical statement, as at the UN Canada consistently votes against a resolution that affirms the West Bank settlements are illegal and are an obstacle to peace.[1]
Most of the land belonging to West Bank Palestinian farmers has been taken from them by illegal colonial settlers, making the possibility of a two-state solution most unlikely.

Again, many thanks for your report. I would appreciate it if you could share my letter with Ms Kotierk.
