Dear Ms. Hassan and Mr. Moore,

I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East to express my gratitude for the article titled “This boxing coach in Gazaruns classes in displacement camps" published on August 20, 2024.

Despite having their gyms destroyed by Israeli forces, Palestinians continue to persevere, using their hands instead of mitts to box—a testament to their unbreakable spirit in the face of Israel’s genocide.

Thank you, Ms. Hassan, for bringing this heartwarming narrative to light. Stories like this are essential in showcasing the resilience of the Palestinian people, who rise above Israel’s brutal occupation and ongoing genocide in Gaza. Activities like boxing are not just means of survival but powerful statements of their enduring hope and strength. Your continued coverage reveals the Palestinians’ fight for their right to exist, and it is this resilience that must be shared with the world.

If I may offer a small suggestion. In the article, you write: "the corresponding incursion into Gaza has killed more than 40,000...."  This is not merely an incursion but a full-scale war of annihilation, marked by the deliberate starvation of civilians, the indiscriminate bombing of neighborhoods and hospitals, and the horrific use of Palestinians as human shields. In any case, words like “incursion” and “invasion” should be preceded by "military" to convey the grave scale of Israel’s atrocities.

Your sentence should rather read, Israel’s military invasion into Gaza has killed more than 40,000....".

Thank you for your attention to these matters. I trust you will take my comments into consideration, in the name of fair and accurate journalism.

Sincerely,

Lynn Naji. Junior Analyst, Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East
