Re: “Investigate UNRWA — but for the sake of Gazans, don’t defund it”

"It is oddly well-timed knowing that, since October 7, Israel has killed 152 UNWRA employees and damaged 146 UNRWA installations and that ICJ ruled that genocide in Gaza is ‘plausible’ and that it must allow more humanitarian aid into Gaza."

Investigate UNRWA all you want, but the fact is that it is already the most audited UN agency. Indeed, UNWRA shares the names of all staff with host governments, including Israel. The list of UNRWA employees is also verified against the UN terror list. When political or military activity has taken place, UNRWA takes swift disciplinary action, as it has already done in this present case. All UNRWA employees abide by impartiality and neutrality principles when joining the organization. Still, despite all of this, Israel decided to make allegations without providing conclusive evidence, leading a dozen countries to freeze their aid. This makes one wonder about the timing. It is oddly well-timed knowing that, since October 7, Israel has killed 152 UNWRA employees and damaged 146 UNRWA installations and that ICJ ruled that genocide in Gaza is ‘plausible’ and that it must allow more humanitarian aid into Gaza.
