Re: “Zionism: why Israel needs to exist in the world”

"To many, Zionism, therefore, represents dispossession, apartheid, and genocide. Perhaps Barber needs to look at these long-standing injustices to understand why so many people today adopt the cause of anti-Zionism."

Barber asks: Why does Zionism “continue to be an obsession and a target decade after decade?” However, she misses how Zionism, as the ideology of the State of Israel, secures its status as an ethnostate where Jewish Israelis are placed above Palestinians. In the name of Zionism, more than 750,000 Palestinians were forcibly expelled from their homes in 1948 and never allowed to return. In the name of Zionism, Israel grabs more and more land for Jewish settlers every day while killing Palestinians and destroying their communities. In the name of Zionism, Palestinians are treated either as second-class citizens within Israel or as state-less subjects in the West Bank and Gaza. To many, Zionism, therefore, represents dispossession, apartheid, and genocide. Perhaps Barber needs to look at these long-standing injustices to understand why so many people today adopt the cause of anti-Zionism.
