Thanks for highlighting the link between Indigenous and Palestinian liberation

"With Israel’s ongoing genocide of Palestinians in Gaza and the media’s unfair, biased reporting, reminders to humanize Palestinians and other marginalized perspectives are more critical than ever before."

Dear Oscar Baker III,

I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East to thank you for a recent article titled “Storytelling project helps newcomers and Indigenous people find shared narratives,” published on February 22 by CBC News.

I really appreciated reading about the shared struggles between Indigenous folks living on Turtle Island and Palestinians experiencing the ongoing colonization of their land by Israel.

Hawamda’s statement that “we’re trying to find ways to tell the world and remind the world that we are not just numbers, we are humans and we have families and we have faces,” is particularly touching. With Israel’s ongoing genocide of Palestinians in Gaza and the media’s unfair, biased reporting, reminders to humanize Palestinians and other marginalized perspectives are more critical than ever before.

After reading about the WhereWeStand project in your article, I am excited to hear more about it once the project premieres this weekend.

Sincerely,

Rose Mardikian,

Media Analyst, Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East
