Dear Benjamin Lopez Steven,
I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East to thank you for a recent article titled “Sanctioned U of O doctor describes harrowing conditions in Rafah after humanitarian trip,” published on February 28 in CBC News.
This was an incredibly informative article that offered insight into the fatal conditions that Israel has fostered in Gaza. I was heartened to hear that Dr. Yipeng Ge, a doctor who had been suspended by his university for publicly expressing Palestinian solidarity, recently visited Rafah to offer his skills and expertise. Building your article off a detailed testimony provided by Dr. Yipeng Ge painted a clear, indisputable picture of what Israel has done to Gaza. While the constant noise of drones and jets looming has had to be painfully accepted and normalized by Gazan civilians, those sounds have proven to be shocking, almost unbelievable, to visitors. To read about those small details that are particularly dehumanizing is helpful to understand the flagrant atrocity that is Israel’s occupation of Gaza.
Thank you for highlighting perspectives that advocate for Palestinians and their liberation. Please continue to do so.
Sincerely,
Rose Mardikian,
Media Analyst, Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East
