The National aired a remarkable news segment exposing Israeli settler violence in the occupied West Bank, the illegality of Israel’s settlements on Palestinian territories, and Israel’s forced displacement of Palestinians from their land. In a media landscape often marked by the silencing of Palestinian voices, CBC broke the trend by courageously shedding light on the injustices Palestinians are enduring, setting an inspiring precedent for fair and accurate reporting.

  • CBC aired footage of one of the CBC news team members on-site being falsely accused of assault and arrested by Israeli military reservists who appeared to be extremist settlers. The clip was shocking and CBC should be thanked for making it public.
  • The news segment exposes the illegality of Israel's settlements on Palestinian territories, critically highlighting Israel's justification for these settlements through a claim of divine right—an exploitative religious argument used to legitimize the ongoing colonization of Palestinian land.
  • The news segment highlights the rise in Israeli armed settler violence, particularly after October 7th, which includes tactics of intimidation and terror, such as firing shots into the air, attacking people with sticks, and sabotaging the harvest by dropping olives on the ground before they are ripe. 
  • The news segment exposes Israel’s forced displacement of Palestinians, highlighting the harsh reality that even when displaced, many are left to sleep in ruined schools, tents, or open areas without shelter.
