Mr. Rachini has been a consistent target of conservative media and pro-Israel groups who’ve accused him of anti-Israel bias. These attacks are part of a larger campaign by pro-Israel lobby groups like HonestReporting Canada and CIJA to pressure CBC into adopting a one-sided, pro-Israel narrative. We are encouraging our Media Responders to send Mr. Rachini messages of support. His strong journalistic work ethic has provided some of the best coverage of Palestine by the CBC and it deserves our thanks.
Good coverage - Media outlet to be thanked
First, a word of good news! Many of you participated in a past alert targeting an Toronto Sun op-ed that slandered pro-Palestine protesters as "Nazis." We are glad to report that the National NewsMedia Council (NNC) sided with us and upheld CJPME's complaint against the paper. The Sun will now be forced to publish a correction as well as the NNC's ruling.
You can read the NNC's decision here.
Thanks as always for your important contributions to this work.
In solidarity,
Jason Toney, Director of Media Advocacy

CBC reporter Mouhamad Rachini published an article on soccer fans demanding that FIFA and UEFA suspend Israeli national teams and clubs from participating in international games because of Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
The article provides balanced reporting and includes important context on Israel’s system of apartheid and its genocide in Gaza which has killed over 60,000 Palestinians.
- The article highlights pro-Palestinian voices such as Palestinian content creators Ahmed Bdair who are amplifying the campaign. The reporter also provides information on the boycott campaign and the motivations by the organizers to protest against Israel. The writer includes a quote that emphasizes the fact that Israel is breaching international law through its genocidal actions in Gaza and the report acknowledges the importance of highlighting global solidarity with Palestinian rights.
- Mr. Rachini includes the death toll in Gaza and directly states that “Israel has killed nearly 50,000 Palestinians in Gaza in their post-Oct. 7 operations, according to Gaza's Ministry of Health.” He even provides added context by including the fact that at least 734 Palestinian athletes and scouts, including 382 soccer players have been killed by Israel according to the Palestinian Football Association (PFA). We should recognize CBC’s role in documenting the destruction of Palestinian sports infrastructure.
- Thank Mr. Rachini for reporting on the parallels between Israel and past FIFA bans (such as Russia and apartheid South Africa) and included perspectives that voice the double standard in international sports governance.
