"The report states, as fact, “ceasefire talks to release the remaining hostages ground to a near standstill.” We all know full well that there was a ceasefire deal and Israel broke it. Even during the ceasefire Israel repeatedly violated the terms and continued to kill Palestinians every day. So your framing of this is a blatant lie. This lie is repeated later in the article."

Dear Ms. Martin, Mr. Walmsley and Ms. Brousseau,
Regarding the article, “Israel approves plan to move Palestinians to southern Gaza, seize territory” printed on May 6, 2025.
As the genocide worsens its apologists intensify their propaganda, as the Globe and Mail has done with this despicable “article”. It is riddled with deception and bias and reveals an embedded racism at the Globe.
This is not journalism. Your “report” merely regurgitates Israeli talking points without analysis or skepticism. You also fail to meet basic impartiality and balance tests. The many factual omissions and word choices also reveal your obvious bias.
The Globe regurgitates Netanyahu's threat to “intensify” the attacks on Gaza. Over 52,000 people have been slaughtered by Israel and there is barely a building left standing - what’s left to “intensify”? This is pure barbarity but the Globe is not concerned with that. This report reveals a total lack of concern for the immense Palestinian suffering and loss. Not a syllable from the victims or even a UN spokesperson. This is a clear dismissal of impartiality and balance.
You repeat the deceptive phrase “seize and hold territory in the embattled enclave and relocate Palestinians to the south.” Embattled is an interesting choice. Genocided would be more accurate but you are careful to avoid that word. “Relocating Palestinians” is also a zinger, as if they are just moving some livestock around. It’s actually called ethnic cleansing and it is a crime against humanity but the Globe is actively suppressing that information. This word choice and omission of the fact that the Palestianians actually live there, have/had homes there until Israel destroyed them, is dehumanizing and racist.
I would ask that you correct the headline to use accurate and fair language and change the word “move” to “expel”.
The report states, as fact, “ceasefire talks to release the remaining hostages ground to a near standstill.” We all know full well that there was a ceasefire deal and Israel broke it. Even during the ceasefire Israel repeatedly violated the terms and continued to kill Palestinians every day. So your framing of this is a blatant lie. This lie is repeated later in the article.
And in the same paragraph, “Israel has barred any humanitarian aid into Gaza in an effort to press Hamas to surrender, leading aid groups to denounce mounting deprivation among Palestinians there.” Again, disgusting and slippery framing and word choices. Israel’s actions are meant to starve and dehydrate 2 million people, not Hamas. Preventing food, water and medical aid to defenceless people is a crime against humanity and no excuse justifies it. It’s called collective punishment and it’s illegal. But you know that, and have chosen to suppress that information from your readers. It’s a lot more than just “aid groups” who are denouncing this cruelty. Many nation states, the United Nations, human rights and social justice groups have condemned this illegal siege in addition to millions of civilians around the world.
And I’m only on paragraph 4 out of 24!
This article unequivocally fails to uphold fundamental journalistic standards. This includes your own published ones below in italics.
The Globe and Mail will seek to provide reasonable accounts of competing views in any controversy so as to enable readers to make up their own minds.
-
Your attributed sources for this article are 100% Israeli or pro Israel.
-
No effort was made to contact anyone with a dissenting/moral view.
In the interests of transparency and trust, reporters have a responsibility to extend a right of reply to the key subjects of their stories on the central aspects of the piece prior to publication. If those key subjects cannot be reached in a reasonable time, the article must explain what efforts were made to reach them.
-
Key subjects ignored were any of the 2.2 million Palestinians who are about to be forcibly displaced from what’s left of their homes or any pro Palestinian advocate of which there are many available.
The fact that the Globe and Mail continues to suppress the Palestinian side of the “conflict” has contributed to the impunity that Israel now enjoys even as its atrocities continue to exceed previous barbaric levels. The Globe must accept responsibility for this, for not doing its job and instead actively deceiving the public.
Thank you for reading,
Jeff Winch
