CBC News gives Israeli ambassador free rein to spread propaganda

On May 22, 2025, CBC News aired a deeply troubling interview with Israel’s ambassador to Canada, Iddo Moed. The segment failed to meet basic journalistic standards, offering a platform for unchallenged Israeli propaganda while erasing Palestinian suffering. We encourage our media responders to hold CBC accountable for its complicity in dehumanizing Palestinians.

Editors note: A previous version of this alert stated David Cochrane was the host of the interview. He is the host of Power & Politics, but was not for this specific interview. It was Peter Armstrong.

  • Not once during the interview was the Palestinian death toll—at least 53,977 killed and 122,966 wounded, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry—mentioned, while the remaining 58 Israeli hostages were discussed repeatedly. This glaring asymmetry reflects a dangerous bias that devalues Palestinian lives and reinforces a narrative of selective empathy.
  • At around 2:23, CBC allowed Israel’s ambassador to claim—without any journalistic pushback—that countries like Canada, Spain, and the UK have warned Israel against continuing its so-called “defensive operations.” After more than 600 days of relentless Israeli bombardment, mass displacement, and starvation targeting Palestinians, this is not a defensive war—it is a campaign of annihilation. Leading human rights organizations and UN experts have concluded that Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians. By allowing this propaganda to go unchallenged, and seemingly agreeing with these characterisations, CBC is normalizing Israel's war crimes and crimes against humanity.
  • At minute 5:13, the Israeli ambassador claims there has been a 670% rise in antisemitic incidents against Jews in Canada. This figure was spread by the Israeli news station i24 and Israel’s Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism, but is originally based on a report from the World Zionist Organization. You can read the report here, but you will not find the 670% increase figure anywhere. It is a false claim that deserves correction.

  • At minute 14, the ambassador falsely claims there has been a sharp increase in humanitarian aid trucks entering the occupied Gaza Strip and complains that “this is not reported.” In reality, the UN has confirmed that no aid has been distributed despite trucks beginning to cross after an 11-week blockade. This is pure misinformation—a blatant attempt to cover Israel’s use of starvation as a weapon of war and to whitewash its ongoing collective punishment of Palestinians.

  • There are countless other ways in which the host failed to conduct a fair and honest interview. We encourage you to include your own angles.
